The Aurora-King Jays 13U Select Team was rewarded for a long summer of hard work, practice, and determination, when they brought home the YSBA U13 Select B Championship with a tightly contested victory over a very tough and spirited Innisfil Cardinals.
The weather for host Midland complicated the eight team double elimination tournament, forcing it to start on Saturday morning instead of Friday evening; however, the Jays came out on Saturday morning with a clean but nervous 7-1 victory over the Stouffville Yankees.  In the second game on Saturday the Jays scored early and often to take down the Richmond Hill Phoenix  21-7.
Sunday morning was more of the same as the Jays cruised to an 18-5 victory over the host Midland Twins to be the only undefeated team remaining.  Next up was the Innisfil Cardinals, the top seeded team from the North Division.  It was a well played game, but the Jays fell behind early and could not make the comeback, taking their first loss of the tournament by a score of 10-5.
With three teams remaining, Innisfil won the draw for a bye straight to the final, leaving Richmond Hill and Aurora-King to battle it out in the third game of the day for each team.  The Jays fought through physical and mental fatigue to win a very close and defensively sound game 4-2 to move on to the final.
The winner take all final game got pushed to Monday night due to the late start of the tournament.  The game was a rematch between Innisfil and Aurora-King and was played at Innisfil’s home diamond, although the Jays won the coin toss and got to be the home team.
Innisfil was slowly put runs on the board and found themselves with a 7-1 lead mid game.  The Jays never gave up and kept battling, eventually breaking through with a seven run fifth inning to take over the lead.   The tight battle continued and the Jays entered the bottom of the final inning in a 10-10 tie game.  As the parents nervously watched on, a leadoff walk and two stolen bases paved the way for an incredibly exciting walk off single and an 11-10 victory, as jubilation on the field erupted for the Aurora King Jays.
Congratulations to Andrew, Ben, Cameron, Clark, Cole, Gabe, Joe, Jordan, Oliver, Sam, Tiago, and the entire Team Staff on the Championship and the season!
