The Aurora-King Jays 12U AA team was triumphant this past weekend at their YSBA Playdowns. On Friday evening the team opened up their tournament with a convincing victory over Richmond Hill by a score of 15-1. On Saturday morning the team played a close defensive game vs. Stouffville but came up short on the scoreboard.
The Saturday afternoon game saw Aurora-King take on the tournament host Orangeville. Leading 11-10 with one out in the last inning of play, Aurora-King turned a rare 2-3-2 double play to seal the victory.
At 2-1 going into Sunday, the team received a bye in the morning game but had to play Stouffville in the sudden death Championship Game. After trailing by as many as 5 runs, the Aurora-King players never hung their heads and kept battling back to make it 7-5 going into the bottom of the 6th. In the bottom half of the 6th inning the Jays put up 7 runs to take a 12-7 lead with three outs to go. After giving up 2 runs making the score 12-9, a very exciting strikeout clinched the win and a berth in the OBA tournament.
The 12U AA team will begin their bid for a provincial championship Labour Day weekend in Bradford.
Congratulations 12U AA YSBA Champs!
