10U AA Jays Tied for 1st in League Play at Halfway Point of Regular Season
The Aurora King Jays 10U AA team strung together consecutive wins on the road this week. On Wednesday, the Jays defeated Caledon 7-2 behind a fantastic starting effort from Mason Strgacic, who allowed 1 run on 3 hits, striking out 4 while walking 0, in 5 innings pitched. On Thursday, in Orangeville, James Sacilotto picked up the save, coming into the game in the last inning with the bases loaded, 2 out, and the Jays up by 1. In a pressure cooker, Sacilotto was able to induce a game ending ground ball to SS Mason Strgacic.
These big wins move the Jays into a tie for 1st place in the YSBA with the Caledon Nationals, both 8-2 in regular season play.
As a special note, the Jays exercised some baseball demons on Thursday night in Orangeville when they defeated the Bengals 10-9. This was the Jays first win over Orangeville (a team that went undefeated in YSBA at 8U and hosted OBAs at 9U) in three years of competitive play.
To date, the Jays’ only regular season losses have come at the hands of the Caledon Nationals (currently tied for first place) and the Vaughan Vikings in a tough back and forth game that went all 7 innings.
In the 10 regular season games played, the Jays’ offence has scored an even 100 runs, while only giving up 77 on defense. Everyone on the team has come up with a big defensive play or key at bat to contribute to the hot start through the halfway point of the season.
Go Jays!
