Another solid month of competitive baseball from the 14U AAA Aurora King Jays as they continued their strong season, going 2-2 in regular season play throughout June. The Jays’ spectacular pitching secured a 6-1 win against the North York Blues behind Ilias Takopoulos’ complete game, throwing 4 strikeouts, and only allowing 1 earned run, 6 hits and 2 walks.  The two losses came from the bats of the Stouffville Yankees, first falling 9-1 at home, followed by a 13-8 loss on the road where too many errors cost the Jays in both games. However, the bats came out in full force against rival Newmarket, with a Jays 15-8 win.  The heart of the order led the onslaught, with Christian Ali batting a perfect 3-for-3 including a triple and a total of 5 RBIs.

The Jays also participated in the Barrie tournament this month with a tremendous result, finishing as the runner-up. After a 2-1 record in the Round Robin, they earned a bye straight to the semi-finals for a meeting with the Kitchener Panthers, beating them in a close 8-6 battle.  In the finals, the Barrie Baycats completed a comeback to win the championship by a score of 16-10.

The month ended with an exhibition game win against the Bradford Tigers 9-6, which saw excellent pitching from the entire staff: Colton Lewis, Ilias Takopoulos, Parker Hewson, Ryerson Edgar, Cameron Parker, Christian Ali, and Alex Gudaitis.

Both Colton Lewis and Andrew Nessinis stepped up this month to lead the offence. Lewis provided 11 hits in 30 at bats, 5 of them for extra bases, producing 8 RBIs, scoring 11 runs, stealing 6 bases, walking twice and only striking out 3 times in the month. While Andrew Nessinis went 9-for-22, with 4 extra base hits that included a home run, 3 RBIs, 9 runs scored, 5 stolen bases, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts for the month.

With great performances by the team, these results extend the 14U AAA Jays’ record to 6-4, currently holding 3rd place in the regular season standings.
