The 14U AAA Aurora King Jays finished second in this past weekend’s Barrie Tournament, falling short to the hosts in the final.

The Jays were strong through Round Robin play, first defeating the Kitchener Panthers in their tournament opener 7-3 in just 6 innings. They would drop the next one to the Brampton Royals 4-1 despite an exceptional outing by Ilias Takopoulos pitching the entire game, only allowing 3 hits, 2 earned runs, 2 walks, while striking out 4 batters. Then a huge bounce-back win over their rival Newmarket Hawks 9-2, on a total of 12 hits without committing a single error.

They would meet the Kitchener Panthers again for the semi-finals in a rematch of their tournament opener. Cameron Parker got the start and threw an outstanding game going 5.2 innings, giving up 7 hits, 4 runs (none earned), only 1 walk, and 6 strikeouts. It was a battle until the final out as the Jays had to shut down the Panthers’ rally in the last inning to come away with an 8-6 win and advance to the final.

It was also no less of a thriller against the host, Barrie Baycats, in the tournament final. The Jays competed hard as they went on top early, 5-0 after 2 innings, before the Baycats managed to tie it up in the 5th inning. The Jays responded immediately putting 5 more on the board in the same inning, but Barrie would slug their way to the win, collecting 11 runs in the final 2 innings to cap off their 16-10 tournament championship victory.

Tremendous team effort by the 14U AAA Aurora King Jays! Keep it up!
