Following up on their OBA berth last year, the 14U AAA Jays have opened the regular season 4-2.

On Opening Day, the Jays beat Barrie 7-3 and quickly followed with a blowout 15-0 win over rival Newmarket.  After a slugfest loss 15-10 to the Whitby Canadians and an uncharacteristic 16-2 loss to Bradford at home, the Jays bounced back with a convincing 11-3 victory in Bradford.

This past weekend, the team travelled to Syracuse, New York for a tournament.  The Jays began the tournament with a 7-1 win over the Mel Ott LL Panthers but followed the opening win with a 14-2 loss to the Sports Zone Black.  In a rematch of the tournament opener, the team suffered a tough 3-1 loss to the Panthers.  The top hitting performer of the tournament was Colton Lewis, who tallied a single and a double, 2 RBIs, 1 BB, and 1 SB while only striking out once.  The top pitching performer was Ilias Takopoulos, throwing 5 innings, while only allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and 1 earner run while striking out one in the team’s win against the Panthers in the opener.

The team wrapped up their month on a positive note, beating the Caledon Nationals 6-3 in regular season play.  Parker Hewson threw a complete game, allowing 5 hits, 2 BBs, and 1 earned run while tallying 6 strikeouts.  He helped himself and his team out at the plate as well, going 2-3 while driving in a run in the victory.

The hottest overall hitter to start the season is Christian Ali, who has gone 12 for 20 for a scorching .600 avg.  He has tallied 9 singles, 1 double, 2 triples and 7 RBIs.  He has walked 4 times and only struck out once.  His baserunning has been unmatched thus far with 9 stolen bases.

The Jays currently sit 2nd in YSBA standings with the ultimate goal of qualifying for provincials for the 2nd straight year!
