The 11UAA Jays extended their streak of tournament wins to three this past weekend by claiming the title in their host tournament.
The Jays opened pool play with a narrow loss to an outstanding Markham Mariner team, but then recovered nicely with decisive wins over Richmond Hill and Whitby on Saturday to win their pool and advance to the semi finals, along with Markham, Stouffville and
Whitby.
The semi-final was a rematch of the tournament opener against an undefeated Markham squad.  The Jays got off to a great start, scoring the maximum 4 runs in the 1st and 3rd innings, which were all the runs they’d need in a 10-7 victory in the 7-inning game.
In the finals, the Jays met an up and coming Stouffville team that are having a great season.  Once again, the Jays got off to a strong start, staking an early 6-2 lead before Stouffville closed the gap to 6-5 in the 4th inning.  With shutdown pitching and some added insurance runs over the next couple of innings, the Jays cemented the 11-6 win in the 7-inning game.
The tournament win was truly a team win, as the Jays got solid pitching, defensive and offensive contributions from all 12 players.
A special thanks to all the tournament volunteers for making the tournament a success and for all the additional work needed to get the fields in amazing shape, despite the downpour.
Go Jays!
